Friction

All Delphi friction range is designed to match the performance levels of original equipment (OE) parts. Our commitment is to maintain the highest standards of braking performance.

A.     Brake Pads

1.     OE quality

Friction material

Delphi takes extreme care in the selection of the material compounds and utilises over 20 different friction materials across its range of brake pads. This ensures a closer match in terms of performance and comfort characteristics to the OE fitment. Delphi pads meet or exceed all official regulations for quality and safety.

These compounds have been developed and refined over time to provide consistently high levels of braking performance right from cold, with low dust characteristics and low levels of noise.

The underlayer

The vast majority of Delphi pads now incorporate underlayer technology. The underlayer is a layer of friction material that contains a higher proportion of resins than the main friction material and is a manufacturing process used by a lot of OE manufacturers. Its purpose is to dampen vibrations which can cause noise and ensure a higher bonding strength with the back plate.

Anti-noise shim

Delphi brake pads are equipped with shims which match the OE specification in terms of quality, quantity and type of shim.

Slots and chamfers

Slots and chamfers in the friction material are designed to match the OE pad set in terms of quantity, position and orientation (straight or diagonal). (Slots enhance performance in wet conditions and chamfers aid bedding in of the pads and help with heat dissipation).

Accessories

Delphi brake pads are supplied with accessories (bolts, wear leads etc) which are equivalent in terms of quality, quantity and type as the OE versions ensuring a high quality repair.

2.     The range

Delphi’s brake pad range is one of the most comprehensive in the market with over 1150 references covering more than 98% of the European car parc.

We recognise the importance of keeping our ranges right up to date and aim to launch new products on a regular basis, sometimes within 6 months of the car being launched in the market:

  • Volkswagen :        Passat CC - Scirocco
  • Ford :                   Fiesta - Ka
  • Renault :              Twingo II - Laguna IV - Koleos
  • Citroën :               C4 Picasso - C-Crosser - Nemo
  • Peugeot :              308 - 4007 - Bipper
  • Nissan :                Qashqai
  • Opel / Vauxhall :     Agila - Insignia

B.     Brake discs

Delphi brake discs are designed to match the performance levels of original equipment (OE) parts. Our commitment is to maintain the highest standards of braking performance.

1.     The OE quality

Delphi brake discs are produced using CNC manufacturing processes which are among the most advanced in the industry. CNC machining ensures adherence to extremely tight tolerances (of about a micron) and guarantees perfect parallelism.

Delphi’s brake disc specifications and the control of our manufacturing processes allow us to guarantee a product equivalent to the OE specifications in terms of quality, but also performances.

In anticipation of impending new European legislation regarding the replacement of discs. Delphi is already making any necessary changes to be fully compliant with a possible ECE R90 legislation.

2.     The range

Delphi’s brake disc range is one of the most comprehensive of in the market with over 1250 references covering more than 98% of the European parc.

Delphi continues to keep it’s disc programme up to date with new parts being regularly added to range.

  • Volkswagen : Tiguan - Passat CC - Scirocco
  • Renault : Twingo II - Laguna IV - Koleos
  • Citroën : C5 II - C4 - C4 Picasso - C.Crosser
  • Peugeot : 308 - 4007
  • Nissan : Qashqai

Moreover, the Delphi brake discs portfolio offers 14 rear brake discs with integrated bearing and ABS rings, mainly for PSA and Renault applications, This enables the technician to replace the discs manner, with minimal risk of damage to the ABS ring.

C.     Drum brakes

With more than 1500 references, Delphi’s drum brakes offer is one of the most comprehensive in Europe and covers more than 91% of the European car parc.

1.     OE quality

Delphi’s brake shoes and drum brake kits are manufactured at Delphi’s plant in France, to the same high quality standards required by Delphi's OEM customer base. Our shoes and drum kits, as with the rest of Delphi’s brake friction range, are R90 compliant. Details of the complete Delphi drum kit range is now listed on TecDoc (applications, kit content, dimensions…).

2.     The range

The drum brakes range includes:

·        Brake shoes

·         Drums

·         Drums with integral bearings

·         Shoe fitting kit accessories

  • Individual components for drum kit repair:
    • Set of shoes
    • Wheel cylinder
    • Spring set
    • Fitting instructions

·         Pre-mounted kits:

    • Set of shoes pre-assembled with springs
    • Wheel cylinder
    • Fitting instructions
    • Brake link with automatic adjusting system or self adjusting system
    • Accessories to fit on the drum brake system
  • Complete Drum brake assembly: all components pre-fitted on a back plate, ready to install on the vehicle.

Key advantages of the kits:

  • Changing the wheel cylinders avoids the risk of leakage.
  • Reduced time to identifying the right components for servicing the entire drum brake system.
  • Eliminates potential mistakes by fitting incorrect parts

·         Reduced fitting time.

D.     Brake discs and shoes accessories

Delphi also offers one of the widest ranges of accessories for brake pads and brake shoes, with over 760 references.

Springs and clips may appear to be in good condition after few thousand kilometres. But after repeated usage, humidity and other external conditions like temperature change and salt on the road degrade the tensile and flexibility properties of the accessories, making replacement essential to retain the original performance of the brakes.

Delphi strongly recommends replacing accessories while fitting new brake pads and shoes in order to guarantee the highest quality repair and therefore guarantee the safety, and performance of the braking system.
