Today's vehicles have more computing power on them than the Apollo spacecraft that took us to the moon. With computer programs, sometimes errors or "bugs" are identified that require a software update. Many older automotive computers stored these programs on a replaceable chip, but newer units have chips that are re-programmable and do not require replacement when the programs are updated. The process of updating these computers is called "flashing" or "re-flashing".
There is no longer a need to send customers to the dealership in order to have engine control modules replaced or reprogrammed. Technicians can now replace and reprogram Engine Control Modules (ECMs) themselves with the Delphi Flash Tool, the technician's personal guide through the ECM flash process.

Simplified Flashing: Connect, Communicate, Create
The Delphi Flash Tool Reprogramming Workbench's pre-flash functions verify the correct connector and cable to use, confirm that the ECM is connected and communicating properly prior to flashing, and check for existing Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC's) that may be present and checked before re-flashing. The post-flash and analyze functions verify that the reprogramming was successful and also advise the user of any relearn procedures, such as crank position, that may be required as well as the steps to perform the relearn procedure. Other re-flash tools require the use of OE-level scan tools for these pre and post re-flash procedures -- with Delphi it's all included!
For added flexibility and convenience, the technician can also utilize the Delphi Flash Tool's wireless capabilities and the scan tool software package. The optional wireless capability will provide the user with the freedom to flash ECMs remotely from a computer. The software package will transform the Delphi Flash Tool into a fully bi-directional scan tool, making any additional scan tool unnecessary.
